AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley and local partners a $149,364 High Demand Job Training (HDJT) grant to prepare workers for long-term, in-demand careers in the industry. 

“This grant will help train students for a career in the medical industry while tackling the critical demand for healthcare workers,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III. “Community partnerships between education, employers, and workforce support pathways needed to prepare our future workforce.”

Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley will use the grant in partnership with Pharr Economic Development Corporation and Rio Grande Valley College to help train 50 individuals for high-demand occupations as life scientists, occupational health and safety technicians, medical assistants, phlebotomists, and more.

Commissioner Treviño presented the award at a ceremony attended by state and local officials, and school staff at the Pharr ONE facility.

About HDJT:
The HDJT grant program is part of TWC’s statewide effort to support collaboration between Workforce Development Boards and local economic development entities. These partnerships help create job training programs that prepare individuals across Texas communities for high-demand occupations.
