AUSTIN ⎯ The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded Trinity Valley Community College a $279,139 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant. The grant will help the school district purchase and install equipment to provide 255 students with training for careers in the healthcare profession. The purchased equipment will continue to support future students enrolled with Trinity Valley Community College.

“This JET grant directly combats a growing problem in our state, a lack of middle-skilled healthcare workers,” said Commissioner Representing the Public Robert Thomas “With this grant, we are investing in more than pump technology and medication dispensing systems, we are investing in the economic health of students and their families as well as the physical health of all of East Texas. The program at Trinity Valley Community College is paving the way to solving one of the biggest challenges facing all Texans.”

“I would like to congratulate Trinity Valley Community College on receiving this JET grant,” said state Sen. Robert Nichols. “To keep pace with the economic growth in East Texas, it’s essential that we invest in our workforce. The awarding of this JET grant demonstrates our state’s commitment to our area’s economic success and to our future workforce in the healthcare professions.”

"Texas is facing a significant gap in skilled workers throughout the healthcare industry," said Representative Keith Bell. "The JET grant promises funding for the necessary equipment to fill this need. The grant is an investment in the residents of Northeast Texas, ensuring their physical and economic health."

TWC recently awarded 25 grants totaling $4,986,000 to public community and technical colleges and independent school districts for programs that focus on supporting new, emerging industries or high-demand occupations through the JET grant program.

The JET program provides funding for equipment to eligible educational institutions for the purpose of developing career and technical education courses and may include courses offering dual-credit and technical education programs. Equipment funded through JET grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.

Eligible educational institutions can apply for the next phase of JET funding through a competitive grant process. TWC has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) solicitation that provides information and instruction on how to submit a proposal packet. Go to the JET Grant Program webpage to access the RFP Solicitation.
