Manufacturing Consortium Partners with Richland College for $705,439 Job-Training Grant

AUSTIN ⎯ A Manufacturing Consortium, including Epiroc Drilling Solutions, Barnsco Inc. and Garrett Electronics Inc. have partnered with Richland College to provide job training using a $705,439 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas area.

“We are pleased to make this grant to Manufacturing Consortium Partners and Richland College, which will provide technology training and help maintain a highly skilled workforce,” said TWC Chair Ruth R. Hughs. “This partnership focuses on specialized technical skills training needed to support this high-demand industry in the Dallas area.”

This grant will be used to provide custom training to 361 new and incumbent workers for Manufacturing industry-related topics process improvement and to bridge technology and leadership skills gaps. The proposed training will help all companies build a strong, flexible workforce of individuals with the technical abilities and self-assurance to take initiative for professional growth. Trainees will include accounting clerks, maintenance welders, assemblers and manufacturing technicians. Upon completion of training, the workers will receive an average hourly wage of $23.39.

Since its inception in 1996, the Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 356,744 jobs throughout Texas. The grants have assisted 4,356 employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature allocated $48 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2018-19 biennium.
