Hendrick Health System Partners with Texas State Technical College for $198,022 Job-Training Grant

AUSTIN ⎯ Hendrick Health System has partnered with Texas State Technical College West Texas (TSTC) to provide job training using a $198,022 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas area.

“Texas State Technical College and Hendrick Health Systems are working together to meet the changing needs of healthcare with training designed to make the patient’s experience better” said State Representative Stan Lambert. “The Skills Development Fund grant provides an opportunity to make a positive impact for Abilene and the West Texas area.”

 “Texas is fortunate to have Hendrick Health Systems and Texas State Technical College collaborate on this Skills Development Fund grant to benefit both the local community and its workforce,” said TWC Chairman and Commissioner Representing the Public Bryan Daniel. “This partnership reflects the state’s continued commitment to upgrade skills sets and create new jobs which leads to successful and rewarding careers.”

This grant will be used to provide more than 2,000 hours of training to more than130 employees for industry-related topics with focus on the health care and social assistance industry. Trainees will include front office and support staff working directly with patients in scheduling, information acquisition, billing and other interactions.

Since its inception in 1996, the Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 342,428 jobs throughout Texas. During fiscal year 2018, the grants supported the creation of 4,682 new jobs. The Legislature allocated $48 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2018-19 biennium.
